Star Light, Star Bright - Binx Walton

$

IMA goes on record in declaring Tennessee native Binx Walton the newcomer most likely to eclipse the current generation of rising model stars as a true supermodel contender. Walton's stunning debut during the Fall/Winter 2013 collections for a diverse selection of shows hinted at the seventeen year's chameleon-like quality. Walton morphed seamlessly from mod squad Marc Jacobs hipster to latex studded Versace vixen and sophisticated gamine for Miu Miu in a beguiling display of modelling prowess. The Next Model Management-repped beauty has since emerged as a runway tour de force logging 27 and 43 show bookings apiece at the Spring/Summer 2014 and Fall/Winter 2014 collections. A deluge of editorial bookings for Russian Vogue, i-D, Another Magazine, Paris Vogue, Self Service, Love, and T Style Magazine have seen Walton stepping up her game with the kind of androgynous, high fashion moxie and gumption that has fashion editors, casting directors, and designers rhapsodising in unison. A week shy of her 18th birthday and Walton pulls out all the stops with an aching beautiful display of elegance and poise mixed with a dash of vulnerability in an editorial and cover for British Vogue's "More Dash than Cash" May 2014 supplement. Photographer Rory Payne captures Walton on the cusp of adulthood as she stares straight down the barrel of the camera's lens with a quiet sense of knowing that this is her moment to shine.

Print is not Dead - Marine Deleeuw

French top model Marine Deleeuw helps launch the debut issue of Leith Clark's book-a-zine "Violet" appearing in an editorial lensed by photographic duo Sofia Sanchez & Mauro Mongiello. Deleeuw sports a striking blunt fringe for the story "Epitaph for a Darling Lady" while donning coats, boots, and dresses ideal for a countryside stroll. Stylist Samuel Francois ensures Deleeuw looks every bit the lady decked out looks by Miu Miu, Christian Dior, Prada, Marc Jacobs, Sonia Rykiel, and Bottega Veneta. Deleeuw's cinematic beauty and brooding chestnut brown eyes imbue the images with a pensive and reflective quality in keeping with the surrounding stark, barren landscape. The Elite Model Management Paris-repped newcomer continues to diversify her image with editorial appearances for a mix of mainstream high fashion and indie publications including W, Another Magazine, Interview Germany, Vandals, Document, V, and Vogue Japan. Deleeuw's latest incarnation for the Violet Book showcases the nineteen year old's classic French beauty to stunning effect. Clark, who also is the founder of Lula Magazine and the style director for British Harper's Bazaar, says optimistically of the new bi-annually produced publication "Print is not dead for me, no way. Magazines just need to be special and book-like - and Violet is book-like. I would never read a book on a screen."

Document Magazine recruits a magnificent cast of model misfits for an editorial in its Spring/Summer 2014 issue. Photographer Christian MacDonald trains his lens on an eclectic gathering of new faces including Kate Goodling, Betty Adewole, Maja Salamon, Ehren Dorsey, Hollie May Saker, Maggie Jablonski, Zlata Mangafic, Harleth Kuusik, Antonina Petkovic, and a posse of male modelling talent. Fashion Director James Valeri embraces the individual eccentricity of the cast of models with standout pieces from the Spring/Summer 2014 collections of Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Emilio Pucci, Valentino, and Givenchy. "Together" proves to be a celebration of the stunning diversity of modelling talent currently ruling fashion's runway with All-American beauties Kate Goodling, Maggie Jablonski, and Ehren Dorsey posing side-by-side the enigmatic Brits Hollie May Saker and Betty Adewole. Completing the bohemian mix of models are Serbian cool kids Antonina Petkovic and Zlata Mangafic and platinum blonde look-a-likes Maja Salamon and Harleth Kuusik from Poland and Estonia respectively. The contrasting beauty of each model provides a stunning juxtaposition amidst the simple stark backdrop of the Steven Meisel-inspired studio shots.

Blonde Ambition - Ola Rudnicka, Sasha Luss & Maja Salamon

Among the deluge of newcomers to surface at the Fall/Winter 2014 collections were a battalion of platinum blonde beauties whose lightened locks cast an ethereal mood over runway proceedings. The blonde in a bottle brigade included newly anointed runway stars Devon Windsor, Nastya Sten, Harleth Kuusik, Maja Salamon, Sasha Luss, Ola Rudnicka, Irene Hiemstra, and Charlene Högger. Vogue Japan picks up on the recent insurgence of blonde runway renegades with an editorial featuring Ola Rudnicka, Sasha Luss, and Maja Salamon for its March 2014 issue. The grand master of light and shade photographer Paolo Roversi, contrasts the lightened locks of the trio with a stark grey back drop with slithers of dappled light casting shadows on the model's pristine features. The best of the Spring/Summer 2014 collections are showcased with stylist Nicoletta Santoro adding a mystical spin to standout looks by Céline, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Givenchy, and Alexander McQueen. Casting director Piergiorgio Del Moro demonstrates his casting prowess in assembling the trio of complimentary beauties. All bases are covered with the poetic romantic beauty of Rudnicka, the sharp angularity and icy death stare of Luss, and the androgynous neutral features of Salamon providing ample inspiration for Roversi's magical lens.

Exclusive Interview - Iana Godnia

Ukrainian beauty Iana Godnia was one of the key faces that IMA placed on high alert in the lead up to the Fall/Winter 2014 season. Modelling since 2009 after being scouted by a former model, Godnia has gained invaluable industry experience and insights which have led to her pivotal breakthrough success on the Fall/Winter 2014 runways. Switching representation to Major Model Management in late 2013, Godnia underwent an image overhaul which encompassed new test shots for her portfolio, a revamping of her casting wardrobe, and a clear high fashion focus for the Fall/Winter 2014 collections. With exquisite sculpted cheekbones, soulful brown eyes, and a svelte runway ready physique, Godnia attracted key interest early during the Fall/Winter 2014 season from casting directors with the most influence. Godnia's exclusive Fall/Winter 2014 debut at Calvin Klein set the wheels in motion for a landslide of blue chip bookings including Burberry Prosum, Jil Sander, Céline, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, and Alexander McQueen.

On the runway Godnia exudes a chameleon-like quality and sophistication that translates to an ability to morph seamlessly from goddess of grunge at Calvin Klein, to bohemian rhapsody at Burberry Prorsum, ultra chic girl about town for Bottega Veneta, and wild at heart feral beauty at Alexander McQueen. Godnia's modelling success is a testament to the merits of sound management, an unwavering will to succeed, and precise timing. No doubt Godnia's stunning physical presence, mature outlook, and appreciation of her newly anointed blue chip status will play a prescient role in the aftermath of the Fall/Winter 2014 collections. Godnia took time out from her post-Fashion Week schedule to chat exclusively with IMA about her most cherished Fall/Winter 2014 moments, her love of bad films, the importance of sharing a common vision with Major Models, and finding her groove in New York City.

Inoubliable Model Army (IMA): Hi Iana, congratulations on a stunning Fall/Winter 2014 season and on making it onto IMA's Top 10 Newcomers List for the season! Were you stunned by the quality and the sheer number of shows that you booked, and at what point did your realise that this was your major breakthrough moment?
Iana Godnia (IG): I'm thrilled! After doing the Calvin Klein show in New York, I thought "Okay, this is really happening!?" Then after the shows wrapped up in Paris, I read a list of the shows I did and I was ecstatic!

IMA: Would you mind sharing your personal backstory with IMA?
IG: I'm twenty-two years old and I was born in Uman, Ukraine. I got into modelling when I was seventeen, but it wasn't something I was doing full-time because I was still in school. I was discovered by a former model that does scouting in Kiev.

IMA: Domonick at Major Models predicted huge things for you in the lead up to the Fall/Winter 2014 collections. What do you feel were the contributing factors to your breakthrough success this season?
IG: It's hard to say. Sometimes things just click. I think the biggest contributing factor is that I don't get discouraged easily!

IMA: You've been appearing on Top Newcomers Lists everywhere however you have been modelling since 2009. Do you feel that your considerable industry experience and the fact that you weren't an 'overnight success' has enabled you to cope with the intense pressure and success of this past season?
IG: Not being an 'overnight success' has allowed me to fully appreciate how lucky I am. In terms of dealing with pressure, experience and maturity are  definitely helpful and I think clients notice that.

IMA: The Fall/Winter 2014 season began for you with a Calvin Klein exclusive followed by an overall tally of 24 show bookings including Louis Vuitton, Jil Sander, Burberry Prorsum, Alexander McQueen, Céline, and Valentino! What are your most cherished memories of the past season both on and off the runway?
IG: After working many hours with the team at Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa said to me, "You're inspiring and everything looks good on you." I have so much respect for his work so it was the nicest compliment I've ever received. The hair and makeup at Alexander McQueen was so special, it felt more like Hollywood than Fashion Week! Just being part of that was amazing. I also rode my first motorcycle taxi between the Miu Miu and Hermés shows on the last day of Paris Fashion Week!

IMA: There appears to be a growing trend in the industry of models hitting their stride professionally in their mid to late 20s. Do you feel that this is a mere coincidence or a reflection of the public's desire to see women as opposed to young girls mirrored on fashion's runways and in print?
IG: I don't think it's a coincidence. Models in their mid to late 20s are more likely to have the maturity and experience that makes them more capable professionals.

IMA: You've gone through a number of changes of agency representation before joining Major Models in 2013. What do you appreciate most about Major Model's management approach and philosophy? What key advice did your agents offer you in preparation for the Fall/Winter 2014 season?
IG: I feel that Major Models has a solid understanding of my career vision. That's really important. It's disheartening when you feel a lack of consensus on such a fundamental issue. I think the best advice I received was to remember to eat and to drink lots of water!

IMA: New York is a long way from your home town of Uman! Was it a culture shock when you first moved to the US, and has the time spent living abroad altered your perception of your own culture and homeland. What do you love most about New York and what do you miss most about home?
IG: The airport in Kiev was a culture shock coming from Uman! But yes, the experience has changed me. There's so much diversity in New York that I never experienced in the Ukraine. And that's my favourite thing about New York. It's an easy place for different people with different backgrounds to find their groove. An experience like that is transformative; it alters your perception about everything. But there are definitely things I miss about the Ukraine. First my family and more recently Crimea.

IMA: What do you hope to achieve in the course of your modelling career, and are there any key industry figures that you find particularly inspiring and would love to one day collaborate with?
IG: My goal is to spend time working with inspiring people for as long as possible. My favourites from last season are Francisco Costa, Nicolas Ghesquiere, and Christophe Lemaire. I'd jump at any opportunity to work with them again.

IMA: Modelling can at times seem like an all-consuming profession especially during Fashion Week! What do you do in your spare time to unwind and decompress from the world of modelling?
IG: I eat amazing food... I like cooking and discovering new restaurants. A little shopping, I watch some bad movies and occasionally a good one ;-). And I travel... anywhere warm, or scenic and authentic.

IMA: Beauty is very much in the eye of the Beholder. What is your definition of true beauty?
IG: When thinking of true beauty, my mind goes to nature before humans.

IMA: A model's sense of style plays a pivotal role at castings and off duty with the prevalence of street style photographers. How do you dress off duty, and was there an outfit that you wore on the runway this past season that you have been unable to get out of your mind since?
IG: I loved the pink dress I wore in my first look at Valentino! Off duty, I focus on being comfortable with a casual cool. It feels good hanging around in a bikini, but you have to mix it up and surprise people.

IMA: What makes you "Inoubliable" (Unforgettable)?
IG: Meeting me and talking to me, if I'm willing to let you get to know me ;-)

Power Play - Imaan Hammam

The French word "panoplie" meaning an impressive collection of things serves as the focal point for an editorial starring model of the moment Imaan Hammam in Paris Vogue's May 2014 issue. Photographer Terry Richardson trains his voyeuristic lens on the seventeen year old mixed Moroccan/Egyptian beauty as she grapples with a mannequin in series of power play poses. Hammam is decadently styled by Fashion Editor Marie Chaix in luminous black ensembles with brilliant flashes of red, turquoise green, and glimmering metallics. The Fall/Winter 2014 designs by Burberry Prorsum, Givenchy, Céline, Roberto Cavalli, and Proenza Schouler figure prominently providing the perfect accompaniment to Hammam's intoxicating exotic beauty as she writhes and wrestles with a nude mannequin. Hammam clearly comes out on top having confirmed her status as the newcomer most prescient in the minds of casting directors, designers, and fashion editors. Since causing a stir opening exclusively for Givenchy's Spring/Summer 2014 show, Hammam swiftly followed suit by logging a blistering blue chip trail at the recent Fall/Winter collections courtesy of 27 pristine show bookings. Equally impressive is Hammam's strong editorial presence with back-to-back bookings for American Vogue, and lens time with Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia in addition to this month's stunning Paris Vogue debut.

Paris Vogue fuses the worlds of fashion, dance, and film for "Backstage", an editorial nod to 80's dance film classics Fame and Flashdance. Polish supermodel Anja Rubik and an entourage of trained dancers including identical twins Laurent and Terry Bourgeois are put through their paces while posing for photographer Mario Sorrenti in a magical display of athleticism, artistry, and pure emotion. Rubik looks primed for a high fashion dance-off in outfits styled Editor-in-Chief Emmanuelle Alt from the Haute Couture collections of Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Viktor & Rolf, and Zuhair Murad. The editorial delivers an element of fantasy, fun, and dramatic flair as Rubik demonstrates her prowess before Sorrenti's lens, modelling from the top of her cascading blonde ringlets to the tip of her leg warmer clad feet. The thirty year old industry veteran commands the stage whether straddling a ghetto blaster, leaning against a piano, or while caught swaying to the beat. The multi-dimensional model who is also the founder and Editor-in-Chief of 25 Magazine, looks set to take her career into overdrive having recently changed representation to powerhouse agency IMG Worldwide.

Moroccan Dream - Maggie Jablonski

L'Officiel France takes its readers on a Moroccan safari adventure with American teen Maggie Jablonski and Norwegian photographer Stian Foss in tow. "La Captive du Desert" features the fifteen year old Major Model-repped newcomer on location at the Scarabeo Stone Camp situated in the sprawling desert landscape of Agafay, located 40 kilometres from Marrakech. Jablonski is dressed to brave the elements in khaki, light weight cotton, and heavy duty trench coats styled by Anne Sophie Thomas from the collections of Chloé, Givenchy, Lanvin, Tod's, Paul & Joe, and Bottega Veneta. Jablonski is a picture of calm serenity while nursing a baby goat, pitching her tent, laying by the camp fire, or taking in the magnificent Marrakech sunset. Since her stunning debut at Prada's Spring/Summer 2014 Menswear show, Jablonski has carved up the international runway circuit appearing recently at Chanel, Roberto Cavalli, Dsquared2, Proenza Schouler, and Alexander Wang during the Fall/Winter 2014 collections. Jablonski's star quality is equally incandescent in print with editorial appearances for Document, Jalouse, Odda Magazine, and L'Officiel France, and a Steven Meisel-lensed Prada Spring/Summer 2014 campaign under her lithe belt. Perhaps even more alluring is in spite of her All-American Tennessee roots, Jablonski's bloodlines are predominantly Polish which explains in part her distinctly European chic appeal.

Coming Up for Air - Sonya Gorelova

Ukrainian newcomer Sonya Gorelova sizzles in the sun for French Numéro's May 2014 issue with iconic photographer Han Feurer as her poolside accomplice. Feurer trains his lens on the Society Management NY-repped beauty for "Plein Soleil" as she sets pulses racing at Miami's Hotel Raleigh wearing an assortment of bold neon-hued bathing suits. The twenty-year old rising star showcases swimwear by Giorgio Armani, Plein Sud, Eres, and Chanel, paired with Louis Vuitton leggings and Christian Louboutin heels. Gorelova's kittenish baby blues, high cheekbones, and tempestuous pout are counter-balanced by a subtle androgyny highlighted by a strong wide-set jawline. Gorelova's  tomboyish allure and classic 80's supermodel va-va-voom make her a compelling proposition for casting directors and photographers. In recent months, the red alert has been placed on Gorelova via a series of high profile collaborations with photographer Mario Testino, Ben Hassett, and Hans Feurer for Vogue Brasil, W Magazine, French Numéro, and Testino's "Towel Series". Yet to make her international runway debut, the buzz surrounding Gorelova is likely to reach fever pitch leading up to the Spring/Summer 2015 collections in September.

Exclusive Interview - Giannie Couji

During the Fall/Winter 2014 collections IMA took a breather in between castings, agency visits, and photographing of models to rendez-vous with enigmatic industry figure Giannie Couji. What was intended as a half hour meet 'n' greet at Sullivan's Bakery in Chelsea, quickly evolved into a two hour animated discourse on issues pertaining to the fashion industry, modelling, life, and everything in between. Couji is certainly qualified in her observations on fashion, style, and modelling trends having acted as a Contributing Fashion Editor at i-D, Velour Magazine, and as Fashion Director at Above Magazine. High profile editorial and campaign gigs for i-D, The Face Magazine, Oyster, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and Chopard attest to Couji's enduring reputation as an industry arbiter of style. During the recent Fall/Winter 2014 collections, Couji's astute and discerning eye extended into the realm of casting in collaboration with casting directors Russell Marsh, Elodie Yelmani, and Barbara Blanchard at Victoria Beckham, Tommy Hilfiger, Julien David, and Hermés.

At first impressions, Couji comes across initially as shy and reserved however over the ensuing two hour tete-a-tete IMA peeled back the layers revealing an engaging, humorous, and passionate individual with an infectious life force. While being regaled by tales involving shooting with Linda, Naomi, Kate et al. and photographer Jean Baptiste Mondino for The Face Magazine, walking in Jean Paul Gaultier's fashion show, sharing her cultural 'must see' New York tips, and her views on the industry's sudden embrace of multi-ethnic diversity on fashion's runways, IMA got to the very heart of what drives Couji in her professional and daily endeavours. Generous, kind, and personable by nature, Couji is guided above all by a sense of integrity that is for herself the true embodiment of what it means to be "Inoubliable".

Inoubliable Model Army (IMA): Hi Giannie, thank you for chatting with IMA! IMA initially met you during the early stages of the Fall/Winter 2014 season in New York before the frenzy of Fashion Week took full flight. What have been your survival tips for getting through the four weeks of Fashion Week mayhem?
Giannie Couji (GC): Team spirit, iron will, homemade smoothies to start off the day (with banana, pineapple, and ginger), good food, and prayers!

IMA: You wear many hats as a Stylist, Fashion Editor, Activist, and Casting Director. How did you initially get into casting and which shows did you collaborate on for Fall/Winter 2014?
GC: I was always interested in casting. As a Fashion Editor, I did casting most of the time for my stories. For the Fall/Winter 2014 season, I worked as co-casting director with Elodie Yelmani for Julien David. I assisted Russell Marsh on Victoria Beckham and Tommy Hilfiger, and also with Barbara Blanchard for Hermés.

IMA: What qualities do you look for in a model when casting and are models in general interchangeable between shows?
GC: The key words that come to my mind when casting are special, vibrant, generous, majestic, instinctive, irresistible charm, disarming, and unique. Yes they are. I prefer to choose models who are multi-faceted and who possess a wide range.

IMA: The Fall/Winter 2014 season saw an incredulous number of newcomers vying for key runway spots. Which new faces caught your eye and imagination this season, and why?
GC: Leila Nda, Imaan Hammam, Binx Walton, Lexi Boling, Sophie Touchet, Nicole Keimig, Kassandra Jensen, Kia Low, Ophélie Guillermand, Ana Buljevic, Ysaunny Brito, Tabitha Pernar, and Alba Pistolesi. They're all one-of-a-kind unique beauties with great personality and irresistible charm.

IMA: In your roles as Contributing Fashion Editor at I-D Magazine in the late 90s, as Fashion Director at Above Magazine from 2006 to 2008, and as Fashion Editor at Velour, you have witnessed significant changes in the modelling landscape. What is your take on the current generation of top models and do you feel that fashion will come full circle in returning models front and centre on magazine covers and in campaigns?
GC: This is definitely a new era in the business. In the late 80s and into the 90s, some models would hang out and form friendships with the designers, acting as their muse. I don't think that is the case with the new generation. There are a few exceptions, however, to the very corporate and "celebrity" oriented side of the business. Eventually, I think models will return to the covers but it won't be soon.

IMA: Speaking of the Supers, you have worked with some of the best while styling the Face Magazine's "Super Girls" editorial lensed by Jean Baptiste Mondino and starring Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Kristen MacMenamy, Amber Valletta, Shalom Harlow, Nadja Auermann, Helena Christensen, and Kate Moss! What was the inspiration behind the styling for that iconic shoot, how was the energy on set, and what were your fondest memories of that collaboration?
GC: We had to keep it simple because we were shooting during Paris Fashion Week and we had each girl for only 1 hour because they were coming in between shows. The girls brought such energy and I just tried to match it. Topolino came up with the idea to use fake piercings. The girls were amazing considering the short time frame. It definitely felt like a team effort.

IMA: You also shared casting honours with casting director Elodie Yelmani on Chloé's Pre-Fall 2014 Presentation. Would you mind taking IMA into the selection and casting process for the group that mde the final line-up; Mijo Mihaljcic, Jenia Ierokhina, Elodia Prieto, Lexi Boling, Nouk Torsing, Colinne Michaelis, Ieva Laguna, and Estée Rammant?
GC: We received a brief from Clare Waight Keller at  Chloé with some specifics. Elodie and I felt that the available models offered more that what was in the brief and created a more diverse selection.

IMA: The past two RTW seasons have bore witness to a return to a more inclusive standard of beauty with the emergence of a stunning array of ethnic modelling talent. Do you feel that the recent multi-hued runways will have a long lasting impact and in your role as a Casting Director is it ever a feasible reason to justify a full-caucasian cast based on the "aesthetic" of the designer or fashion house that you are casting for?
GC: Yes it will. For how long? I don't know. Personally, I feel there is no reason to justify a full-caucasian cast. It is sending a wrong and negative message. We're living in a multi-ethnic society and designers should embrace the variety and be more open-minded.

IMA: The fashion industry appears to adopt a dispensable approach to the current generation of models with an ever-alarming turnover of new faces each show season. What would your advice be to models to improve their longer-term career prospects in the fickle world of fashion?
GC: My advice is to be positive and to never give up. I have been involved in many editorials that featured older models as well as newer faces.

IMA: You've lived in three of the major fashion capitals; London, Paris, and New York. Do you have a personal preference between the three, and has your fashion sensibility evolved since you relocated to New York?
GC: My first love was London which will always be dear to me but Paris and New York have allowed me to grow. I like to navigate between the three and sometimes my fashion sensibility might reflect the new environment.

IMA: Were there any shows that stood out for you as highlights during the Fall/Winter 2014 season from either a casting or design point of view?
GC: Yohji Yamamoto, Sacai, Simone Rocha, Christopher Kane, Bottega Veneta, Hermés, Stella Jean, the Row, Suno, Julien David, and Iris Van Herpen.

IMA: You've styled editorial shoots for i-D, the Face, Bon, Above Magazine, and Velour, in addition to campaigns for Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and Chopard. Tell us a little about your website "Style by Giannie Couji" and what projects can we expect to see from you in 2014?
GC: The website shows a wide range and variety of my work in editorial and advertising. I also started a blog (GC Blog) about a year ago. It's a platform for images of inspiration, portraying photography, music, fashion, and art among other pictorial musings. Check it out at www.gianniecouji.com. I'm working on a few exciting projects with some prolific designers. Stay tuned!

IMA: What inspires you in your daily life and in your professional endeavours?
GC: My inspiration comes from people who work on the front line to improve other people's lives. It could be through a picture, a painting, or even someone on the street or in the subway. Movies, books, documentaries, and friends provide me with many muses.

IMA: What makes you "Inoubliable" (Unforgettable)?
GC: My INTEGRITY.

Hairstylist Guido Palau and make-up maestro Pat McGrath highlight Boling's stunning nonchalant beauty courtesy of frosted lips, perfectly sculpted eye brows, and side-swept peek-a-book hair. Exclusive Interview - Leila Ndabirabe

New York Model Management's Leila Ndabirabe was one of the most magnetic new faces that IMA encountered during castings for the Fall/Winter 2014 collections. With her spectacular 180 cm frame, penetrating puppy dog brown eyes, and immaculate skin tone, it's unsurprising that Ndabirabe eclipsed the field during her rookie show season, displaying stunning versatility at Victoria Beckham, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Emilio Pucci, Chloé, and Hermés. Meeting Ndabirabe, it becomes evident that her personal backstory is every bit as fascinating as her striking physical appearance. Hailing from Burundi in South East Africa, Ndabirabe moved to Belgium at age ten with her mother to escape the country's devastating civil war. The statuesque Ndabirabe flourished in her new home environment, excelling academically while undertaking studies in Law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles before modelling intervened. Cajoled by her family and friends who recognised her modelling potential, Ndabirabe approached her mother agency IMM Bruxelles and was signed on the spot.

Modelling for just over a year, Ndabirabe's dual cultural background and experiences lend her an air of intrigue that is discernible in her exquisite poise, demeanour, and charismatic nature. On the runway, Ndabirabe marries the best of both of cultures combining a regal presence with a nonchalant cool and sophistication. Key support during the early stages of the Fall/Winter 2014 season from casting director Russell Marsh who cast her as a semi-exclusive at Victoria Beckham, precipitated a deluge of interest from designers and casting directors in Milan and Paris. Effortlessly chic at Hermés, girl-next-door for Tommy Hilfiger, free-spirited at Chloé, and super glamazon at Gucci, Ndabirabe enthralled all throughout her thirty-three pristine show bookings. Ndabirabe took time out post-Fashion Week to chat exclusively about her epic journey from her native Burundi to the runways of Europe, the invaluable life lessons that she has acquired through modelling, finding her place in the fashion industry, and the captivating meaning behind her name.

Inoubliable Model Army (IMA): Hi Leila, congratulations on a magnificent debut at the Fall/Winter 2014 collections and on making it onto IMA's Top 10 Newcomers list for the season! How are you feeling in the aftermath of Fashion Week and has the enormity of your achievements registered yet?
Leila Ndabirabe (LN): Thank you IMA! After this crazy Fashion Week, I feel so grateful and blessed because I had the opportunity to walk for so many amazing brands and to meet different people who have all taught me more about the fashion industry. Now, I feel like I have lived twenty lives from New York to Milan and Paris. I have so many memories about those cities, the designers I met and new friendships formed.

IMA: Would you mind sharing your backstory with IMA?
LN: Actually, I come from Burundi in East Africa. I grew up there and left when I was 10 years old. My mother decided to move to Belgium because of the civil war situation, therefore I had the chance to live this second part of my life. I started modelling one year ago and as I had always been the tallest and skinniest of my entourage, everyone was pushing me to model. I waited until I completed my studies then one day I went to see my mother agency IMM Bruxelles and they signed me directly.

IMA: At the casting for Oscar de la Renta's Fall/Winter 2014 show, IMA was struck by your poise, grace and sophisticated beauty. Has modelling always been a dream of yours and were you surprised by the fashion industry's overwhelmingly positive response throughout your debut season?
LN: I had always dreamed of being on the catwalk with the vibe created by the music and walking in high heels with other models but truly I had no idea what being a model included growing up. So it was like a dream come true this past season. I didn't expect to walk all those shows. It was a great surprise for me, I still can't believe it.

IMA: You kicked off your Fall/Winter 2014 season as a semi-exclusive at Victoria Beckham before racking up a show tally of 33 pristine bookings including Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Gucci, Versace, Bottega Veneta, Chloé, Dries Van Noten, and Hermés. What are your most cherished Fall/Winter 2014 memories of the season both on and off the runway?
LN: My first incredible memory of the season was of course, the Victoria Beckham show as it was my first big show. Which is also why I was so nervous and excited however when I was walking in the show I felt comfortable and wanted to relive the moment. My other special memory is from the Hermés show which was actually my last show. That was when I realised all the amazing shows I walked in and all the good experiences I just had.

IMA: You were originally a law student at the Université Libre de Bruxelles before making a 'slight detour' into modelling! How does a law student end up in the crazy world of modelling, and have you found modelling to be as mentally stimulating in its own way?
LN: As a law student who used to be always studying books, I can say that modelling is also stimulating in both a mental and physical way. Everyday, you are faced with new challenges, travelling to new cities without speaking the language, far from our families while learning so many different aspects about this profession all the while trying to find our own place in this world. So at the end of the day, you learn so many things about yourself and life which cannot be found in books.

IMA: Success in modelling is contingent on having the right look, at the right time, and in the right place with the backing of a sound and professional management team. What do you appreciate most about NYMM's management philosophy and approach, and what advice did your agents offer in preparation for the Fall/Winter 2014 season?
LN: The thing I really value about NYMM is the fact that they are careful, supportive, and concerned about each of us. I knew that I wasn't alone in this adventure because some days can honestly be really exhausting. The most important thing my agents told me is to always be myself and to have fun.

IMA: What do you enjoy most about modelling and what are your long-term career aspirations?
LN: I really enjoy wearing all of those beautiful creations and being able to somehow bring something of myself to the clothes. I hope I will have a long career with many enriching experiences, and to be a role model for little girls from Burundi who dream to be a model and think that it is impossible.

IMA: During the Spring/Summer 2014 season, ethnic diversity was embraced widely on fashion's runways with casting directors and designers featuring multi-ethnic line-ups in their shows. Do you feel that this casting 'trend' continued at the Fall/Winter 2014 collections?
LN: This season we saw several ethnic model walking at the shows but I hope next season that there will be even more of a mix of girls. I still believe that things can change. Coloured girls also have their place in the fashion industry.

IMA: Fashion Week is literally a United Nations Summit for modelling with girls converging from all over the world for one month of intense fashion madness. Did you have the opportunity to meet and bond with other models in between castings, round the clock fittings, and the shows?
LN: I have met so many other models, that's also one of the fondest memories I retain from Fashion Week. We are all from different countries and we all learn about each others unique stories which is always a good way to spend while waiting for hours at castings and fittings! And now I also have many different options for my next holiday ;-)

IMA: A model's sense of style plays an important role when meeting prospective clients and also in inspiring fashion trends for the public and within the industry. How would you describe your own street style?
LN: I would say I am a mix between classic and casual style. I love to wear sneakers with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Also I love long coats layered with a nice dress underneath with high heels.

IMA: Imagine you are hosting a dinner party and you could invite any five key industry figures to attend. Who would be on your guest list?
LN: This is not an easy question because there are so many talented people I would like to meet and work with. Steven Meisel, Joe McKenna, Carine Roitfeld, Karl Lagerfeld, and Pat McGrath to name but a few!

IMA: What do you miss most about your native Burundi and was moving to Europe an extreme culture shock? Do you envisage making the move to New york after having had a taste of the city this past season?
LN: The thing I miss most about Burundi is the bright sunny days. It's summer the whole year round. To move to Europe was shock in the sense that I had to leave all my friends and family. In the end, I feel a complete mix of African and European culture which makes me who I am today. I'm also starting to feel at home now in NYC.

IMA: Ndabirabe is an amazing name and one that IMA had no trouble pronouncing right on first attempt! Does it have a particular meaning in Burundian culture?
LN: In my mother language, Ndabirabe means "to pay attention".

IMA: What makes you "Inoubliable" (Unforgettable)?
LN: The thing that makes me "Inoubliable" is my humour. I love to laugh, smile, to tell jokes, and make people around me happier.

Smalls is a vision of futuristic glam styled by Anastasie Barbieri in elaborate statement pieces in gold and silver metallic hues by Alexander McQueen, Giambattista Valli, Gucci, Roberto Cavalli, Saint Laurent, and Lanvin. T Magazine reinterprets the Sweater Girl for an editorial featuring American model Amanda Murphy captured by photographer Mario Sorrenti. Twenty-seven year old Murphy imbues the pages of the New York Times Style supplement with a strong womanly presence while showcasing oversized knit sweaters and capes on location at the surf town of Todos Santos in Mexico. Stylist Jane How and hair and make-up artists Recine and Yadim weave their magic creating a super-chill feel to "Lost in Paradise" courtesy of Murphy's "just stepped out of the shower" centre-parted hair, minimal barely there make-up, and a non-fussed approach to summertime dressing. The IMG Model Management repped industry veteran forms part of a growing collective of models in their mid to late 20s including Drake Burnette, Ava Smith, Sasha de Brauw, Kati Nesher, and Aymeline Valade who are currently running rings around their younger modelling counterparts. Murphy's exotic brooding beauty, versatile nature, and her consumer relatability have caught the attention of the fashion elite via Spring/Summer 2014 campaign bookings for Prada, Bottega Veneta, Céline, and Zara. IMA had the pleasure of interviewing Murphy exclusively in October 2013 and was charmed by her authenticity, eloquence, and beautiful spirit.

Rise Like a Phoenix - Maria Borges

Angola's Maria Borges is without a doubt one of the most charismatic personalities that IMA has encountered along the casting trail. The Supreme Model Management-repped beauty is impossible to miss at castings with her 180 cm statuesque frame, rich mocha skin tone, and the sound of her ebullient laughter. Raised by her older brother and sister during Angola's tumultuous civil war, Borges path to modelling success began after she placed second in the Elite Model Look Angola 2010 competition. Borges was signed swiftly by Supreme Models in New York before making her international runway debut at the Spring/Summer 2011 collections. Borges has since become a firm runway fixture and favourite with designers Oscar de la Renta, Riccardo Tisci, and Tom Ford amongst others. Borges striking beauty has gained significant exposure in the pages of Love, CR Fashion Book, Harper's Bazaar, W, French Numéro, and the German, British, Portuguese, and Italian editions of Vogue, and also features in Givenchy's Spring/Summer 2014 campaign lensed by Mert & Marcus. This month Borges adds another credit to her modelling resumé with a stunning only-girl editorial for Vogue Brasil. Photographer Nicole Heiniger and Fashion Editor Lucas Boccalao create a selection of visually arresting images with Borges decked out in shimmering silver, gold, and pink ensembles while posing against a black backdrop. Borges is a vision of Goddess-like proportions decked out in sequinned pants, jackets, and dresses matched with the ultimate accessory - her mega-watt smile.

Ode to Irving Penn - Caroline Brasch Nielsen

Photographer Olivier Stahlmans creates a stunning portfolio of poetic imagery featuring Danish top model Caroline Brasch Nielsen for New York Magazine's May 2014 issue. Master photographer Irving Penn and his wife and muse, Swedish model Lisa Fonssagrives, serve as the inspiration for "Fluid Silhouettes." Fashion Editor Veronica Misako Gledhill selects head-turning statement pieces from the Spring/Summer 2014 collections of Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Prada, and Giorgio Armani with an emphasis on contrasting textures and dramatic silhouettes. Twenty year old Brasch Nielsen's raw natural beauty is on full display sans hair and make-up styling as she channels the grace and elegance of Fonssagrives with Stalmans monitoring every minute detail. Discovered in 2010 while lunching at a pizzeria in her native Copenhagen, Brasch Nielsen found herself on the runway weeks later at Balenciaga's Fall/Winter 2010 show. Brasch Nielsen's versatile unembellished beauty has proven to be her drawcard, gracing the pages of a diverse array of publications including Dazed & Confused, Dansk, W, Interview, and the American, British, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, German, French, and Italian editions of Vogue. Campaigns for Valentino, Marc Jacobs, Chloé, cK Calvin Klein, Sonia Rykiel, Oscar de la Renta, Burberry Black Label, Uniqlo, and H&M are an indicator of this Great Dane's wide market appeal.
