Go West - Kate Grigorieva

Russian newcomer Kate Grigorieva stars in her first major fashion editorial since turning heads during a stunning debut at the Fall/Winter 2014 collections. The twenty-five year old Muscovite goes west for a Mariano Vivanco-lensed editorial in the July 2014 issue of Spanish Vogue. Vivanco steadies his lens on Grigorieva's jaw-dropping 180 cm silhouette as she takes on the wild, wild West wearing a Stetson and ensembles styled by Claudia Englmann from the Fall/Winter 2014 collections of Proenza Schouler, Dolce & Gabbana, Barbara Bui, Chloé, and Chanel. Grigorieva, a former Russia's Next Top Model runner-up, blitzed her way through seventeen Fall/Winter 2014 show bookings including Oscar de la Renta, Donna Karan, Gucci, Versace, Stella McCartney, Céline, Givenchy, and Alexander McQueen. With a finely chiselled bone structure to rival Paulina Porizkova's, dreamy grey/green feline-like eyes, and luxuriant honey blonde tresses, Grigorieva's look harks back to the powerful supermodel aesthetic of the late 80s. As the Fall/Winter 2014 season hots up, Grigorieva's va-va-voom in your face beauty is sure to set pulses racing in key campaign and editorial slots.

Leader of the Pack - Karlie Kloss

The supermodel tag is so loosely used nowadays that the word appears to have lost its true meaning when used in reference to today's generation of models. For IMA, the word supermodel belongs to a distinct breed of model who has over time developed model-as-muse relationships with designers, stylists, and photographers, who possesses a chameleon-like quality, and whose career has withstood the fickle nature of fashion and evolving casting trends. One model who embodies the very essence of what it means to be truly Super is industry veteran Karlie Kloss, who at the ripe old age of twenty-one has enjoyed a prolific modelling career spanning over seven years. Kloss' modelling trajectory runs the full gamut of fashion's elite including campaign bookings for Donna Karan, Oscar de la Renta, Chloé, Alexander McQueen, Hermés, Yves Saint Laurent, and Dior. From the early outset, Kloss was marked for greatness appearing on the covers of Teen Vogue's February 2008 issue, followed by a rapid succession of cover appearances for American Vogue, W, i-D, Muse, Document, French Numéro, and virtually every international edition of Vogue. It was Kloss' scintillating coming-of-age December 2011 Vogue Italia cover appearance under the tagline "Extra Strength" followed by her inclusion in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show which confirmed her status as a bonafide high fashion model with true mass market commercial appeal. This month Kloss appears in a David Sims-lensed editorial for American Vogue, leaping and bounding all the while captivating readers with a mischievous snap-challenging gaze.

Back to Basics - Malgosia Bela

Following a week in Barcelona spent basking in the sun, indulging in afternoon siestas, and devouring enough tapas to last a lifetime (or perhaps until next year at least) IMA returns with a renewed focus and fervour. This month Dutch Vogue embraces a little summer lovin' of its own with a cover story and editorial featuring the iconic model Malgosia Bela. The thirty-seven year old Polish beauty poses for Dutch photographer Annemarieke van Drimmelen wearing simple black and white ensembles styled by Dimphy den Otter from the Fall/Winter 2014 collections of Veronique Leroy, Hermés, Chanel, Balenciaga, Céline, and Ralph Lauren. Modelling since the late 90s, Bela has enjoyed a prolific career thanks in large part to a stunning chameleon-like quality that runs the full gamut of modelling's many incarnations. Bela's strong masculine jawline, huge voluminous green eyes, and imposing 177 cm frame have been in Vogue since she entered the modelling game at the ripe old age of twenty-one. Speaking candidly with Into the Gloss, Bela hits the nail on the head while explaining the key to her longevity in fashion's fickle spotlight, "I guess I've maintained relevancy because my look is classic, but not too pretty. I can do a campaign for H&M and Alexander Wang, and I can do weird stuff with Steven Klein or more commercial work. I think success on modelling comes down to your look, luck, hard work, how professional you are, and, let's face it, how well you manage the business side of things."

Slow Dance - Malaika Firth & Amanda Murphy

032c Magazine showcases two of modelling's most illuminating faces for an editorial in its Spring/Summer 2014 issue. New York Model Management's Malaika Firth and IMG's Amanda Murphy are the leading protagonists for an editorial lensed by Alasdair McLellan and supported by male models Paolo Gallardo and Tyler Wingfield Mason. Firth and Murphy run rings around their leading men decked out in ensembles styled by Benjamin Bruno from the collections of Céline, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss, J.W. Anderson, and Lanvin. McLellan hones in on Firth as she embraces model Winfield Mason while slow dancing with a serene look of repose. Murphy's raw unembellished natural beauty is the focal point in a series of paired back studio shots with the twenty-seven year old posing in a buffalo stance supported by trainers by Adidas. Both newcomers are undeniably two of the most in demand models of the moment with Murphy scoring Spring/Summer 2014 campaign slots for Prada, Céline, Bottega Veneta, and Zara, and hot-off-the-press Fall/Winter campaigns for Hugo Boss and Salvatore Ferragamo. Barely 6 months into 2014 and already the year belongs to twenty year old Firth with a clean sweep of plum editorial bookings including W, Porter, i-D, Interview, and the American, French, Italian, British, Japanese, and Chinese editions of Vogue.

The Fall/Winter 2014 campaign season is in full throttle mode with new campaigns surfacing daily. With this in mind, Gucci pulls out the big guns to avoid getting lost in the flurry of campaign offerings with a stellar cast of established models immortalised by photographic boy wonders Mert & Marcus. The Heavenly Seven include Suvi Koponen, Natasha Poly, Karmen Pedaru, Joan Smalls, Nadja Bender, Raquel Zimmerman, and Anja Rubik in a series of retro themed studio shots. The dynamic grouping of models, all of whom are in their mid to late 20s, are a testament to the powers of longevity in an industry overrun by up & coming modelling teen sensations. Poly, Zimmerman, Pedaru, Koponen, and Rubik have all individually notched up over ten years of industry experience and show no signs of slowing down. Newer recruits Bender and Smalls have quickly established a strong industry foothold with Estée Lauder cosmetics signing Smalls as their first ever Latina spokesperson. Smalls' recent Spring/Summer 2014 campaigns for ICB by Prabal Gurung, Fendi, and Neiman Marcus confirm her blue chip and commercial selling power. Dutch sensation Bender continues to diversify her bombshell images with recent editorial bookings for i-D, Harper's Bazaar, Numéro, Scandinavian SSAW, and the French, Russian, Japanese, and German editions of Vogue.

Raising the Roof - Balmain Babes F/W 2014

In what can be described as a masterstroke of casting genius and a firm nod to the recent call for greater diversity in fashion, Balmain unveils a multi-ethnic cast of models for its Fall/Winter 2014 campaign. Creative director and designer Olivier Rousteing and casting director Anita Bitton at the Establishment shine the spotlight on "the beauty of different ethnicities" with an eclectic mishmash of established faces and stunning new modelling talent. Photographer Mario Sorrenti creates pure campaign gold with supermodels Jourdan Dunn and Cara Delevingne headlining a cast of up & coming new faces including IMA favourites Binx Walton and Dominican runway queen turned DJ/skater Ysaunny Brito. Walton and Brito light up the campaign imagery with their drop dead gorgeous looks and trademark tomboy swagger while bolstered by the magnetic presence of it girl Delevingne and industry veteran Dunn. Rounding out the cast are recent Vogue Italia cover girl Issa Lish and Ford Model Management's red hot newcomer Kayla Scott. The element of surprise pays dividends with the inclusion of Mexican/Japanese newbie Lish who was a Saint Laurent exclusive at the Spring/Summer 2014 collections and appears to be Steven Meisel's newest modelling crush. Balmain's Fall/Winter 2014 campaign marks Kayla Scott's modelling debut without having so much as set foot on an international runway. Scott's razor sharp cheek bones, powerful androgyny, and penetrating gaze will no doubt figure just as prominently on Spring/Summer 2015 runways in September. Under the skilful art direction and styling of Katie Grand, the magnetic cast of models lounge luxuriantly in Rosteing's tribal-themed designs, raising the roof for Balmain's decadent Fall/Winter 2014 slumber party fest.

X Marks the Spot - Vivien Solari

A key challenge for fashion editors, photographers, and casting directors is the process of identifying the right girls at the prescient time in keeping with a publications aesthetic all the while keeping abreast of current fashion and modelling trends. British Vogue combines all the right elements to assemble a dynamic collective of models for an editorial lensed by Karim Sadli in its July 2014 issue. Industry veteran Vivien Solari returns to the pages of British Vogue accompanied by models of the moment Amanda Murphy and Lexi Boling, and Dutch newcomer Rianne Van Rompaey. "Hit Reset" features the stunning quartet wearing standout pieces from the Fall/Winter 2014 collections of Miu Miu, Céline, Chanel, Valentino, and Bottega Veneta styled by Fashion Editor Francesca Burns. With barely there make-up and lightly tousled hair care of Lucia Pica and Damien Boissinot, the raw natural beauty of the models is the focal point of Sadli's discerning lens. Solari's return to modelling's inner-circle following a 7 year hiatus marks a departure from the fashion industry's youth-oriented beauty aesthetic. At age thirty-three, Solari is clearly in her prime displaying an aspirational beauty and model as muse tendency that appeals to fashion's elite and a wide demographic of consumer. Current Steven Meisel muses, Murphy and Boling bring a modern and compelling take on American beauty to the pages of British Vogue while newbie Von Rompaey holds her own with a delicate peaches and cream complexion offset by a tumble of head-turning auburn red tresses. All eyes will be trained on Von Rompaey at the impending Spring/Summer 2015 collections following her stunning runway debut opening for Louis Vuitton's Cruise 2015 collection.

Coffee & Cigarettes - Vogue Italia July 2014

$

Vogue Italia embraces cafe culture for its July 2014 issue with an A-list cast of female and male modelling talent going tete-a-tete over coffee and cigarettes before Steven Meisel's prying lens. Models of the moment Edie Campbell, Amanda Murphy, Lexi Boling, Julia Nobis, Anna Ewers, Meghan Collison, Mariana Santana, and Vanessa Moody are paired up with R.J. King, David Flinn, Geron McKinley, Dorian Reeves, and Yuri Pleskin for the intensely moody editorial. Stylist Karl Templer goes retro for "Every time we meet you make me feel so incomplete..." decking out the cast of models in 60s Mod-inspired pieces from the collections of Prada, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, and Valentino amongst others. Hairstylist Guido Palau and make-up artist Pat McGrath complete the picture with slick centre-parted hair, over-sized bangs, frosted lips, and smoky eyes. Standing out amongst such an illustrious cast of models is no easy feat but one which newcomers Mariana Santana, Vanessa Moody, and Anna Ewers handle with aplomb. Indigenous Brasilian beauty Santana sultry dark features and wide-eyed innocence sear through Meisel's lens with a scorching intensity. Vanessa Moody's snap challenging gaze and tempestuous pout bring an element of surprise to the cast with the American making her Vogue Italia debut. Moody is a marked woman having opened for Alexander Wang and Balenciaga at the Fall/Winter 2014 collections, and more recently for Valentino Couture Fall/Winter 2014. Last but by no means least, Brigit Bardot look-a-like Anna Ewers is perfectly cast bringing a kittenish sex appeal and devil-may-care look of indifference that encapsulate the essence of the free-spirited 60s.

Lost In the Woods - Elisabeth Erm & Kendra Spears

Estonian top model Elisabeth Erm and All-American sweetheart Kendra Spears get lost in the woods for Vogue China's August 2014 issue. Photographer Emma Summerton juxtaposes the extreme beauty of Erm and Spears with the austere wood surrounds. Erm's air of serene detachment and Spears' smouldering sensuality work perfectly in contrast as the pair pose perched atop boulders and while communing with nature. The Fall/Winter 2014 fashions of Marc Jacobs, Prada, Saint Laurent, Etro, and Valentino figure prominently bringing a touch of colour and drama to the tranquil setting courtesy of stylist Elin Svahn. 2014 has been a big year for both models with Erm consolidating her status as one of the most consistently sought after new faces both on and off the runway. At the Fall/Winter 2014 collections Erm blazed a lightning trail through a mammoth 60 show bookings. Erm's editorial presence continues build with key slots for Italian Flair, Self Service, Exit, and the Russian, Taiwanese, Japanese, Brasilian, and German editions of Vogue. Twenty-five year old Spears' may have paired back her runway resumé but print exposure in publications including Allure, Vogue Thailand, Tatler, S Moda, Spanish Vogue, and blue chip campaigns for Etro, Escada Fragrance, and Tod's ensure she maintains industry relevance.

Exclusive Interview - Lieke Van Houten

The Dutch modelling insurgence continues with the arrival of Westervoort native Lieke Van Houten on the international modelling stage. Discovered via the Elite Model Look competition in 2011, Van Houten took out the Dutch title before placing amongst the top 15 finalists at the international finals in Shanghai. Signed by mother agency Micha Models in Holland, Van Houten has wasted little time in making an indelible impact locally with editorial appearances for the Dutch editions of Vogue, Elle, and Glamour. Modelling full-time since completing her higher school education, Van Houten debuted on the international market via a pivotal key spot in Prada's Spring/Summer 2014 campaign lensed by Steven Meisel. Amidst an impressive cast of established and new faces, Van Houten's intense gaze and powerful presence ensured she stood out from the model pack. Buoyed by that momentous Prada campaign berth, Van Houten's continued to galvanise industry attention at the Fall/Winter 2014 collections in Milan and Paris, walking for Dsquared2, Marni, Dolce & Gabbana, Jacquemus, and Chloé.

Van Houten's rich chestnut brown hair, peaches and cream complexion, and sparkling blue eyes turned heads recently during her first working stint in New York this past Spring. Editorial bookings for Contributor and the Last Magazine, and test shoots with Mark Luckasavage, Billy Rood, and Scott MacDonough hint at Van Houten's promising future. When IMA met Van Houten in New York at the castings for Chloé Resort held by Elodie Yelmani Casting, the seventeen year old was a beguiling concoction of girlish charm mixed with a sophistication beyond her years. Van Houten's slender 177 cm frame, Lolitaesque pout, and feline-like eyes cut a fine figure as she glided across the room while demonstrating her runway swagger. IMA got up-close-and-personal with Van Houten following the castings to chat about her stellar debut at the Fall/Winter 2014 collections, shooting with Steven Meisel for Prada, and her love of family and her model mom.

Inoubliable Model Army (IMA): Hi Lieke, thank you for chatting with IMA! You were one of the newcomers that IMA had its eye on throughout the Fall/Winter 2014 season. What were your expectations heading into your international runway debut and how did it feel to be amongst all the action in  Milan and Paris?
Lieke Van Houten (LVH): I had none, I was hoping for some good shows because I was starting with a Prada campaign in my pocket. Still I didn't want to have expectations because I didn't want to be disappointed later. I'm thankful for everything I did this season.

IMA: You've experienced a meteoric rise in the relatively short time you've been modelling! Would you mind sharing your backstory with IMA?
LVH: Well, a friend of mine signed me up for the Elite Model Look 2011. Against my expectations, I won and went to China for the International Finals. I got into the Top 15 which was my goal so I returned to the Netherlands with a good feeling of achievement. Elite Worldwide signed me shortly after and I started with small jobs in the Netherlands and some visits to Paris. I finished my school a year ago and am now modelling full-time which I am loving.

IMA: Whereabouts in Holland do you hail from, tell us about your childhood, and did you have an interest in modelling growing up?
LVH: I live in Westervoort which is close to Germany and near by a bigger city called Arnhem. It's not big but it's fine. I like it up there, everybody I love is close to me. My parents are both Dutch so I'm 100% Dutch and as they say in the Netherlands, '100% kaaskop' haha! I'm 17 years old now. Modelling was never a dream if mine, it came to me when my friend signed me up for EML and that's how I came into the business.

IMA: IMA has kept you on its radar since you placed in the Top 15 at the EML 2011 and was blown away when you surfaced in Prada's Spring/Summer 2014 campaign. How did the Prada booking come about and were you initially petrified at the thought of shooting with Steven Meisel on your first major modelling gig?
LVH: I decided to visit my agency in Amsterdam, Micha Models, and during the first few days Micha was sending my pictures around to clients. Ashley Brokaw was excited from the beginning and booked me for the Prada campaign. So after only a week with Micha, I had my first big job. I was really thankful to work with Steven Meisel but I'll admit I was a little bit shell-shocked as this was one of my first major jobs.

IMA: The Prada S/S 2014 campaign featured an extensive cast of newcomers. Did you get the opportunity to bond with the other models on set?
LVH: Yes, I got to know a lot of the girls, some are big and some like myself were new. During Fashion Week I saw a lot of the Prada girls so it's funny how everybody gets to the same place as you.

IMA: Your Fall/Winter 2014 show list included some major moments including turns on the runway at Chloé, Marni, Dolce & Gabbana, Dsquared2, and Jacquemus. Were there any Fall/Winter 2014 memories that you will cherish forever?
LVH: I was thankful for all of them but there was one moment I will cherish always. I was with Maartje Verhoef backstage and she got interviewed but we were laughing at each other so bad that we ruined the entire interview. We don't want to see the interview because it's gonna be sooo bad hahaha! But we had so much fun ;-)

IMA: The Dutch modelling insurgence continues with yourself, Maartje Verhoef, Julie Hoomans, Julia Bergshoeff, Annemijn Dijs, Irene Hiemstra, and Imaan Hammam emerging as the next generation of modelling superstars. What do you feel is special or unique about Dutch girls which is contributing to the industry's on-going fascination with all things Dutch?
LVH: Dutchies are really laid-back and polite. I think that's why people like us so much, we're most of the time really nice and not that shy, but polite at the same time. So you'll always have fun with a Dutchie on your set!

IMA: This year alone you have appeared in editorials for Contributor, the Last Magazine and the Dutch editions of Vogue, Elle, and Glamour. What do you enjoy most about the print component of modelling?
LVH: I like to shoot editorials, they're always different. None is the same and it's really artistic. When you do a commercial job it's most of the time the same team, same story, same drill, it's also enjoyable but the fun part about doing an editorial is that it's never the same. It's sometimes extremely outside of the box and that also makes it so much fun to be a part of the creative process.

IMA: Let's talk about the importance of sound management. You are represented by a formidable team of agents including your mother agency Micha Models, Elite Paris, and the Society NY. What do you value most about your professional and personal relationship with your mother agent Micha Emmering Krijger and the team at Micha Models?
LVH: What I love most about Micha is that she's a mommy. She's really a model mom. All you have to do is call her and she'll do everything for you, when you have a problem, when you're sad, when you're doing something big, she's always there. When I'm in a city she loves to come over and visit her girls just to check if they're happy. For me Micha is the best model mom you can have!

IMA: You recently embarked on your first work trip to New York where you will be based for a while. Are you excited about the prospect of living in New York and what do you hope to achieve while there?
LVH: I hope to do a lot of editorials and fun jobs, to meet wonderful people and to hang out and get to know more models.

IMA: What inspires you in life and what have been the most valuable lessons that you have gained as a result of your modelling experiences?
LVH: That family is the most valuable thing in the world. They're always there, always proud and supportive. So when I'm sad they're there and when I'm happy likewise. I've learnt how important family is and how much I need them in my 'happy life'.

IMA: Models nowadays rely heavily on social media to raise their public profile and fan base. Are you active on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram etc, and do you feel empowered by the fact that models are encouraged to take a more active role in charting the course of their careers?
LVH: Yes I am on social media, and I can feel how much people are following you once you get to do bigger jobs. After Prada, I had so many more followers on Instagram and had girls telling me they're looking up to me. But for me it's still weird to read that. I feel like any other normal human being and not like a 'big model'. I know a lot of casting directors and clients keep an eye on social media so for sure it can do something for your career!

IMA: IMA absolutely adored the pink and cream coat that you wore at Chloé. Were there any outfits that you wore this season that you would love to add to your wardrobe and how would you describe your street style?
LVH: Yes, my Chloé coat and my Dolce & Gabbana dress, just because it's so Dolce and that's what I like about it. I felt like a princess for a minute.

IMA: What makes you "Inoubliable" (Unforgettable)?
LVH: Just the person that I am, laid-back and true to myself.

Supermodel Carolyn Murphy returns to the pages of Paris Vogue posing for Patrick Demarchelier for the style bible's August 2014 issue. The stunning veteran model poses for Demarchelier styled to the hilt by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele in a mish-mash of street chic looks paired with luxuriant fur pieces. Demarchelier captures the classic and timeless blonde hair blue eyed beauty as she strikes a series of energetic poses while wearing Fall/Winter 2014 looks by Moschino, Emilio Pucci, Kenzo, Balmain, and Anthony Vaccarello. Murphy shows no signs of slowing down as she approaches her forties, having appeared in Fall/Winter 2014 campaigns for Max Mara and Moschino, in addition to editorials for British Harper's Bazaar and Vamp. Murphy's enduring appeal is no more apparent than in her long-standing association with Estée Lauder cosmetics. Murphy signed on as a spokesperson for the cosmetics giant in 2001 and continues to bring her trademark elegance and radiant glow to the campaign's imagery today. Proving that versatility is the key to longevity in the fickle world of modelling, Murphy traverses the world's high fashion and commercial modelling appearing within the pages of American Vogue, i-D, Numéro, and Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue.

V Magazine's Fall/Winter 2014 issue proves to be a flesh fest of epic proportions (46 pages to be exact) with four of IMG Model Management's most in demand female stars disrobing while paired with four very chipper lads. Top models Joan Smalls, Emily Didonato, Amanda Murphy, and Bridget Malcolm prove that "less is (in this case) more" posing alongside male models of the moment Sean O'Pry, Clark Bockelman, Matthew Terry, and Aurelien Muller. Sparks fly as photographer Mario Testino captures the the onscreen chemistry between the models as they pose languidly side-by-side. Fashion Editor Sarajane Hoare understands the thrill of the slow reveal decking out the models in swimwear, Calvin's, long johns, and oversized coats from the Fall/Winter 2014 collections of Jil Sander, Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Dolce & Gabbana. Supernova Joan Smalls brings her trademark Puerto Rican sizzle to the fore while Sports Illustrated Swimsuit regular Emily Didonato continues her high fashion crossover from modelling's commercial realm. Steven Meisel favourite Amanda Murphy and Calvin Klein's newest Obsession Clark Bockelman prove that opposites attract and Australian Bridget Malcolm makes the leap to modelling's major league with her surprise inclusion amongst a stellar cast.

Next Model Management's Magda Laguinge pounds the pavements of New York City in an editorial lensed by David Bellemere for American Elle. The Argentinian's brooding exotic beauty is captured in full flight as she poses next to a construction site, amidst scaffolding, and while exploring the city's environs. Laguinge stops traffic in the Fall/Winter 2014 season's statement pieces by Luis Vuitton, Stella McCartney, Prada, Saint Laurent, Hermés, and Lanvin selected by stylist Samira Nasr. The heavy browed Argentinian was scouted at age thirteen on the beaches of Buenos Aires but did not start modelling until completing her higher school education in 2010. Laguinge's off-kilter beauty, lithe 178 cm frame, and stunning versatility have graced the pages of V, Wonderland, Love, Dazed & Confused, CR Fashion Book, i-D, and the British, Australian, Chinese, Russian, and Italian editions of Vogue. Since her debut at the Fall/Winter 2011 collections, Laguinge has been a permanent runway fixture appearing most recently at Dior and Chanel Cruise 2015 and opening for Chanel at the Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2014 collections.

This month Hammam adds photographer Lachlan Bailey to an impressive list of industry heavyweights she has collaborated with this year including Steven Meisel, Terry Richardson, Craig McDean, Karim Sadli, Mikael Jansson, Angelo Pennetta, and Phil Poynter.
